The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

 

The Book Thief is a story about a girl named Liesel who is growing up in Germany during World War II and is told from the point of view of Death.  This follows Liesel and her journey of stealing books and her family journey when they hide a Jewish man in their basement.  I really enjoyed this book and thought it was interesting being told from the point of view of Death.

Very well-written book that incorporates historical elements. It gives the reader insight into life during WWII. The book also includes interesting narration, through the perspective of Death himself. 

The Librarian of Auschwitz by Antonio Iturbe

 

The Librarian of Auschwitz is about exactly what the title says - a librarian in the German concentration camp of Auschwitz.  The librarian is a Jewish prisoner in the camp, who keeps track of the illegal books in the camp, and lends them to the prisoners who would like to read them.  The book is a very detailed account of what happened to some prisoners in the German concentration camp of Auschwitz.  I believe everyone should read this book sometime in their lives to educate themselves on the topic.

The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom

Corrie ten Boom has always had a love for others in her heart. But it will be tested in The Hiding Place, a thrilling true story set during the Holocaust in the Netherlands. Corrie and her family must hide multiple Jews in their little house, the Béjé. They are the center of an underground movement. What will happen when the inspectors come?

The story, while not exactly happy, sucks you in and is impossible to put down. The plot captures Corrie's struggles and triumphs, and is an amazing read for people over thirteen years.

Number the Stars by Lois Lowry

Ten-year-old Annemarie lives in the Netherlands during the Second World War. Her life is carefree and simple with few nuances - other than her annoying little sister Kirsti. Until the Nazis invade Copenhagen. The Johansens (Annemarie's family) take in Ellen Rosen, Annemarie's best friend, to keep her safe. Annemarie's loyalty and courage is tested when she must go on a dangerous journey with many lives at stake.

Night by Elie Wiesel

It's a book about when a teenager named Elie Wiesel who is a Jew spent his days in Auschwitz Concentration Camp thinking about death, faith in God, and survival.

Resistance by Jennifer A. Nielsen

This was a very interesting book! There was a lot of action and feelings! It was overall good.

I am David by Anne Holm

This was a good book; one of the better ones that I have ever read.  It caught my attention in the first few pages.  It was a good experience reading this book.

It was really good because it told about the kindness of people.

Light Years by Tammar Stein

The book Light Years is about a girl named Maya who struggles with finding herself.  She is originally from Israel but moves to Virginia for college.  I rate this book a 10/10 because Tammar Stein describes the details very vividly.  I totally recommend this book!

All But My Life by Gerda Weissmann Klein

She really described in detail how she suffered as someone who was forced into the camps.

Night by Elie Wiesel

This was a really good book and gives a survivor's account on what happened to him in the Holocaust. I have a lot better understanding of what happened at the camps and how the prisoners were treated. It gives a very detailed account of what happened and is very emotional.

The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak

A great read! The Book Thief is a great way to get a historical background of Nazi Germany during WWII. It was interesting and a good book for a school project. Rating: 4 out of 5
