 This book is set in 2083 where Anya's dad died and he was in charge of a big coffee brand.  In this time, coffee and chocolate were illegal and through spending time at high school with her friends and taking care of her siblings, she is put through many hardships that eventually she overcame... or not.

The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie

 

I really enjoyed this book because it had a great character list and really read into the emotions of the main character. There was a lot of meaning behind the book and in school we analyzed a lot in almost every chapter.

Dry by Neal Shusterman/Jarrod Shusterman

 

Dry is about kids living in Southern California during a major drought when all of the water is suddenly cut off. I love how the book takes into account how modern-day people would likely react to the situation. The book highlights the drastic effects that climate change can really have on the US itself. I would recommend this book to late middle/high school readers. It really opened my eyes to how bad things could get if they go unchecked.

The Student Leadership Challenge by James S. Kouzes

 

I liked this book and I recommend it to anyone struggling with a leadership position. It talks about 10 strategies that you can use to improve your leadership skills and your impression to your peers as a leader. I liked this book because it had strategies that worked, but the examples in the book were very unrelatable.

One of Us is Lying by Karen M. McManus

 

If you love thrillers then this is a great book for you.  This book always has you on the edge of your seat.  This book is one of my all-time favorites and is a definite must read.

You'll Be the Death of Me by Karen M. McManus

You'll Be the Death of Me is a murder mystery book.  This book follows Ivy, Mateo, and Cal.  This book takes place when one of their classmates is killed.  I love the books written by this author because in all of her books the characters are always hiding something and it is fun to uncover exactly what their secrets are.  The reason I didn't give this book a full 5 stars is because it can be a little confusing at times and a little hard to follow the story in some parts.
 

Frankly in Love by David Yoon

This book was one of my favorite books and it was about racism and a second generation immigrant and his daily life and one day, Frank's dad got shot and his whole world was turned upside down.  Shortly after, Frank's dad was diagnosed with 3rd degree cancer and his doctor said that he only had a few months to live and keep in mind, this is Frank's senior year, who knows what will happen next?!

The Geeks Shall Inherit the Earth by Alexandra Robbins

It had a lot to do with the real world. I could relate to it since I'm in high school and the book revolves around high school kids.

Exit, Pursued by a Bear by E. K. Johnston

Cheer camp is going to be great this year for Hermione.  But when she wakes up the morning after the end-of-camp party, everything has changed.  Now, armed with her cheer squad, parents, and best friend Polly, Hermione must negotiate her way through her senior year in addition to the aftermath of cheer camp.  You'll laugh, cry, and feel it all along with Hermione as she grows, struggles, and ultimately triumphs.  This was a very good book that I would definitely recommend.

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens by Sean Covey

A motivating book with both comical wit and helpful advice.  While reading, I got new ideas and, with personal comments from other teens, felt not alone with the daily struggles of being a teenager.  It made me feel better after reading and was a relaxing read.

The Problem with Forever by Jennifer Armentrout

Mallory doesn't want to be invisible anymore.  She's had more than her fair share of troubles, but that's from the past.  She's had four years to bury it.  But then Mallory meets an old friend, and she learns that the past doesn't just go away.  Slowly, but surely, Mallory falls in love.  Slowly, but surely, Mallory learns to speak up for herself, and stop being invisible.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

This book is very good, and the movie was almost as good as the book I thought.  I like it because in the book, the way each chapter is set up, it is like different dates, and says "Dear friend..."  And it kept me interested throughout the book.

If I Lie by Corrine Jackson

If I Lie is a wonderfully crafted novel about a senior named Quinn, who was caught cheating on her boyfriend, a US Marine.  It is the story of her year, as she is harassed by the entire town she lives in.  There is a lot of swearing, but the book focuses on the perseverance of the human spirit.

(Addition from Miss Jennie:  I totally agree!  This is one of my favorite stories - about loyalty, and lies, and perception.)

Pop by Gordon Korman

A great book that will really interest teens who are into football and great players of the game.  Lots of lessons are taught in this book and it really makes you wonder about life.

Girl in the Mirror: A Teen's Guide to Self Awareness by Denise Crittendon

"Girl in the Mirror" is a book that helps to motivate you when you feel you are down and that everybody is against you.  It keeps you on your feet.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

I enjoyed this book very much.  The characters were certainly relatable in one way or another and I found them to be very likeable.  With a good plot and a rather unique format, this book is a book every teen should read.

Hate List by Jennifer Brown

This was an intersting book about a school shooting from the perspective of the shooters girlfriend. As you read through the book, you can feel Valerie's pain of remembering the horrific events of that day, but at the same time you notice her healing and want to see her move on. The language is witty and comical- a welcome addition to dealing with a serious issue. Overall this a great book to read if you love stories with complex relationships; like Romeo and Juliet.

Speak, by Laurie Halse Anderson

The book was pretty good overall. It moved slowly in the beginning and middle and everything happened towards the end. It was also very depressing and negative because it involves a girl who is very depressed and lonely. You don't understand why she is like that until later and it gets better after that.

This book kept me on edge the whole time. It was really suspensful and creepy but it was a really great book.
