The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold
The girl is a teenager and she gets murdered. The whole book is about how she tries to find and expose her killer and keep him from killing other people.

The Ship of the Dead by Rick Riordan
An awesome book of adventure. Best of the trilogy yet! I cannot wait for the next book with demigods.
